From Sampling Vinyl to Directing AI: 20+ Years in Hip-Hop

I'm Yusef Lateef — a hip-hop producer who came up in the era of crate-digging and MPCs, now using cutting-edge AI to create visuals that match the soul of the music.

The Journey

My roots in music go deep. Starting back in the 90s, the process was raw and untamed: spending hours digging through dusty crates in record stores, pulling samples, and chopping them up on classic hardware like the MPC and ASR-10.

That era taught me everything about groove, texture, and making something extraordinary out of the overlooked and forgotten. It was about taking pieces of the past and engineering the sound of the future.

The Evolution

Seeing Where the Industry Was Heading

By 2024, the game had fundamentally changed. Artists still needed incredible sonic backdrops, but they also desperately needed consistent, high-quality visual content to survive in the algorithm.

The problem? Traditional high-quality music videos cost anywhere from $5K to $50K. It was a massive barrier for incredibly talented artists trying to break through.

That's when I started experimenting heavily with the bleeding edge of AI video generation tools—Sora, Veo 3.1, Runway, and others. I applied the exact same meticulous, sample-flipping mentality I used for audio to these new visual tools. I even produced a massive 11-episode documentary entirely on 80s Queens hip-hop using strictly AI-generated visuals.

Today, I'm creating AI-driven visuals and lyric videos that look like $20K productions, at a fraction of the cost, empowering independent artists to compete visually with major label budgets.

"Sampling isn't dead. The tools just got better. The same way I flip a vinyl record into a beat, I flip AI tools into visual stories. It's all about taste, timing, and knowing what serves the music."

Why Work With Me

I Understand Hip-Hop

I am not a video editor who learned hip-hop. I am a hip-hop producer who mastered video. The bounce, the pockets, the aesthetic—it's natively baked into everything I touch.

Speed Without Sacrifice

Traditional video workflows can take weeks of agonizing back-and-forth. Utilizing modern AI workflows, expect a premium lyric video turned around in 2-3 days, not 2 weeks.

Affordable Pricing

Level the playing field. Access visuals that carry the weight of a high-end physical set for $300-$1000, looking and performing identically to $5K+ productions.

Who I Work With

Emerging Artists

Those who need high-retention lyric videos, consistent Instagram content, and a relentlessly professional look to stand out from the noise.

Indie Labels

Boutique collectives managing 10-20 artists who need consistent, reliable content pipelines but can't justify shelling out $10K per music video.

Producers

Beatmakers who make incredible heat but lack the visual marketing tools and know-how to successfully push their catalog to artists.

Let's Work

Ready to upgrade your release strategy with industry-standard aesthetics?

I still sample vinyl. I still use drum machines and samplers. And I still believe the best beat is the one that makes you screw up your face and nod your head. AI video generation is just another tool in the crate.
